Today, Shane and I attended the Caucus in Deer Isle/Stonington, which took place at the Deer Isle Town Hall. On Tuesday, we voted as part of Super Tuesday, and the caucus today chose the delegates that will be going to the Maine State Democratic Convention. Only six people participated in the caucus from Stonington and two of them were Shane and I.
The vote in Stonington was split evenly between Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders. Since Stonington gets four delegates to the state convention, Shane and I volunteered (and elected by default) to be the Biden delegates for Stonington. The convention is in Bangor over Memorial Day Weekend. Go Joe!!
I was just musing yesterday on you-know-who's nickname for Biden as 'Sleepy Joe' - and then I remembered there being a relatively modest hit for Herman's Hermits in 1968 of a song with that title. It reached a comparatively humble #12 position here but barely registering at a very lowly #61 in America (this when Herman's Hermits were having big hits and several chart-toppers all over the world). You, at your tender age, won't recall it, but BLOTUS certainly will, he being four months older even than I am. I can't trace any other origin for the soubriquet 'Sleepy Joe' than this particular song - and having just refreshed myself on the lyrics I find it a strain to fit it into Biden's persona. I s'pose that for BLOTUS it's just something that easily rolls off the tongue - and we all know how he likes to keep things simple for his simple-minded supporters.
