So Much for Dinah's Modeling Career

I stupidly let Dinah out in the front yard last night for a quick pee off the leash. We've done it dozens of times with no bad outcome, but last night was different. There was something in the yard... a deer I assume. And Dinah took off after it.

She went off like a streak in the dark and disappeared. It was only for 2 minutes with me calling her to come back (screaming like a crazy man), which she did eventually, but it was a very long 2 minutes.

This is what she looked like when she got back. I assume she got scratched by a branch under a pine tree. She was lucky it did not go into her eye. It seems to be healing nicely, but lessoned learned about letting a certain puppy out off the leash.

  1. Poor girl. But it is the risk I take every time we let Shep out lest there be a squirrel, bunny or deer.

  2. Awww. One of the first things we did when we moved into this house was to have the property (about half an acre) fenced, so we could let the dog out. Still, we take our walks off leash and deer, rabbits, and other wildlife (in Tasha's case, birds) are invitations to run wildly away in chase, especially when the dogs are pups.

  3. When she disappeared I know just how distressing it must have been, and how relieved you will have felt when she re-appeared, albeit with that facial wound which, thankfully, isn't worse. But they certainly do take control of our lives, these 'little' ones, seemingly without giving a thought to the pull they have on our emotions.
Mt heart is already heavy after reading of JayGee's [Going Gently] desperately sad loss of our very dearest Winnie. I don't need anything else today about our much-loved pets to drag me down yet further.
