Day 8 - Snowy trip to Santa Fe

We spent the night in Guymon, OK, and it started snowing Monday evening and we had snow showers overnight. We woke up to about an inch of snow on the grass and car, but it wasn't sticking to the road. As we drove west today toward Santa Fe, it was fine most of the way as we traveled though Oklahoma, but once we got to New Mexico, the road conditions worsened and the snow fell more steadily. There was no work on the roads from the NM boarder to Clayton and some of the road conditions getting closer to Santa Fe were snow covered. We did make it to Santa Fe with a few white knuckle moments.

This is a two-lane highway outside of Santa Fe.
Once we arrived in Santa Fe, we checked into our hotel and then wanted to go to the Georgia O'Keefe Museum, but unfortunately due to the weather, it was closed. We walked around and went into several galleries and stores.

We had hoped to visit some museums in Santa Fe, but they were all closed due to the snow.

We stopped by Herve Wine Bar for a drink and something to eat, as we hadn't eaten anything since we had the free breakfast the Holiday Inn Express in Oklahoma earlier in the day. It was such a nice place. The soup was delicious. Shane said it was the best soup he ever had. We all got a flight of 3 wines... a Pino Grigio, a rose and a cab. It was a great way to cap off the afternoon.
We had a flight of 3 wines at Herve Wine Bar and the best tomato soup ever!
We are staying at the Hotel St. Francis in Santa Fe, which has been around a few years.
The view from our hotel room.
We had dinner at a restaurant called 'Dinner for Two.' Shane had NY stip steak and I had a seafood sampler. Mine was so so, but Shane said his steak was average. Our waitress was nice, but it wasn't the best dinner, but was pretty good. We went back to our hotel and bad a nightcap at our hotel. Shane had a house cab, but I asked for an old fashioned, which turned out to be the best one I've ever had. It was at our hotel bar, Secreto Bar at the Hotel St. Francis. It was incredible. Since we split a bottle of wine at dinner and then I had the old fashioned, I might be a little drunk as I write this. Hopefully, it makes some sense.

I had a seafood sampler that consisted of salmon, coconut shrimp, and crab cakes.
The Santa Fe town square lit up at night.

  2. Thanks Kent! We had the best KFC in Guyman... A friend of Shane's that died was buried there, but since it snowed, we were only able to find the cemetery and not the exact location of his gravestone.
