Day 9 - Santa Fe to Flagstaff

We spent last night in Santa Fe and this morning we had breakfast at Tia Sophia's and then we did the Georgia O'Keefe Museum, since it was closed yesterday due to the very light snow. The museum was half-priced because many of the paintings were removed from exhibit. We went through and saw the paintings and then watched the 14 minute video about O'Keefe's life. It was very interesting and was glad we did it.
After the museum, we started driving west toward Flagstaff. The scenery in New Mexico was very pretty with lots of mountains, mesas and rock formations.

Well, Shane's standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona... Such a strange sight to see.
We were going to make a last-minute stop at Meteor Crater National Landmark... then changed our minds.
We found out the tickets were $22 per person as we were driving there and it closed in 30 minutes.
We arrived in Flagstaff in the early evening and went to the Historic District, which seemed very pretty at first. We booked a room in the hotel pictured above, which has its rooms named after celebrities that have stayed in it. We are in the Spencer Tracy room. We were warned that the Zane Grey room was haunted. When we went out walking in Flagstaff, we were underwhelmed with the area. We had a hard time finding a place we wanted to eat. There are a crazy number of Thai restaurants, but we just wanted something less exotic. We ended up in a sports bar and had salads. They were having a trivia night, so we stayed for that, which was fun. The hotel, which looked cool and historic at first, turned out to be fairly dingy, musty, and noisy.

  1. I assume the paintings were on loan somewhere, but didn't find out where. It was still well worth going. I have a new-found appreciation for her now.
